With more than 25 years of
experience in the complex field of representing victims of medical
negligence, Mr. Janet has been recognized in the media as a leading
medical malpractice attorney. He has been honored by his peers for
inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America and in Maryland Super
Lawyers. Mr. Janet’s accomplishments, which
include the largest medical malpractice verdict ever won in the District
of Columbia ($24 Million) and largest verdict in Minnesota for a child
with cerebral palsy ($15.5Million), have been reported by USA Today, Dateline
NBC, Jet Magazine, the Washington Post, the Baltimore Sun and affiliates
of ABC, CBS and NBC. Mr. Janet has obtained numerous multi-million
dollar recoveries for his clients for injuries ranging from birth injury
and cerebral palsy to death, brain damage, quadriplegia, misdiagnosed
cancer, amputation, stroke and heart attack.
In addition, Mr. Janet has expanded the
rights of victims of medical malpractice by advocating and winning
decisions that broadened the statute of limitations for wrongful death
claims and established the right of brain damaged children to be
compensated for future medical expenses when their parents’ claims for
those expenses are precluded by the statute of limitations.
Mr. Janet also has successfully
represented people who received improper representation by their prior
medical malpractice attorneys. Taking on these
mishandled medical malpractice claims as legal malpractice claims
against the prior attorneys, Mr. Janet has won multi-million dollar
recoveries, including a $12 Million verdict for a previously
botched anesthesia malpractice claim.
A testament to his reputation, most of
Mr. Janet’s cases have been referred to him by other attorneys from
around the United States. Choosing from among all the law firms in the
nation, these attorneys asked Mr. Janet, and the Medlaw Legal Team of
Janet, Jenner & Suggs, LLC, to represent their clients. The Medlaw
Legal Team’s representation of clients outside of Maryland, the
District of Columbia and Pennsylvania is undertaken in association with
local counsel, and if suit is filed, with permission of the applicable
court. Association with local counsel results in no additional legal
fees to the client.
Mr. Janet is also an active leader in the
legal community. In addition to having testified before legislative
bodies regarding issues of concern to people injured by medical
malpractice, Mr. Janet has lectured to fellow attorneys on such subjects
as “Maximizing Your Results in a Medical Malpractice Case,” “Birth
Injuries and Brain Damage: Legal and Ethical Implications,”
“Wrongful Death,” and “Settling a Medical or Legal Malpractice
Case Before Suit.” Mr. Janet also served on the National Legal
Education Advisory Committee of the American Bar Association Program
entitled, “The Experts Analyze Brain Damaged Baby Cases.”
Mr. Janet is a past president
of the Gary I. Strausberg Foundation, Inc., a private, nonprofit
institution dedicated to “the professional education of the legal
community and the education of the public on issues of safety, the civil
justice system, and the role of the jury.” Moreover, Mr. Janet has
previously served as a Governor of the Maryland Trial Lawyers
Association and is a member of the MTLA President’s Club as a Founder.
Mr. Janet is a member of the Maryland Bar and the Bar of the United
States District Court for the District of Maryland.
