Salmonella Outbreak Alert - Pot Pie Recall

OFFICIAL RECALL: Beef Pot Pies added to salmonella alert. Turkey, Chicken, and Beef Pot Pies Recalled. Read More | Register Your Complaint

Salmonella OutbreakOctober 10, 2007
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have issued an alert advising consumers not to eat Banquet frozen chicken or turkey pot pies. Federal authorities are also warning consumers to avoid similar generic store-brand products because they may be linked to a salmonella outbreak.

Over 100 people in dozens of states have been sickened after eating the contaminated pot pies. The CDC sent inspectors Monday to the manufacturer, ConAgra Foods Inc. ConAgra voluntarily stopped making the pies Tuesday, The Associated Press reported.

The pot pies in question have the code P-9 printed on the side of the package. The CDC, which is leading the investigation, said 30 states have reported 139 cases of salmonella poisoning, including 23 that required hospitalization. Wisconsin had the most cases (19), followed by Pennsylvania (13).

Symptoms of food poisoning begin eight to 72 hours after eating food contaminated with Salmonella. These include traditional food poisoning symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. The symptoms generally last one to five days. Dehydration can be a complication in severe cases. In severe cases, the infection may spread from the intestines to the blood and then to other sites in the body, sometimes causing death.

If you or anyone you know feel that you have contracted salmonella as a result of consuming the recalled frozen products and wish to discuss this matter or your rights or interests with respect to this matter, please contact The MEDLAW Legal Team of Janet, Jenner & Suggs, LLC toll free at 1-888-4-MED-LAW or (410) 653-3200, or via e-mail at rjenner@medlawlegalteam.com.
